Inaba Produce is a third generation family farm dug into the rich volcanic soil of the Yakima Valley. Many of the sustainable farming practices used today were started in 1907 when Shukichi Inaba and his brother came from Japan, cleared the land of sagebrush and with techniques learned in Japan, began cultivating crops.

Inaba produce farms

My first thought when I read that the Inabas are third-generation farmers was "What happened to the Inabas and their farm during WWII when persons of Japanese ancestry were put in concentration camps?" I think this story needs to be told. I think it is relevant to the wholistic values of our co-op; the sociopolitical history of our food sources is part of Eating Consciously.

Hello bluesbird, thanks for your comment! We do address this very topic in this video (from 2:40 on). You're right that theirs is a story that must be told so that future generations are aware of the struggles of the past.
